Hey Everyone! it’s Courtney and this is day 2 of our stay in Ecuador! Ms. Zagar and Dan finally got here at about midnight last night. We were all extremely excited to see them! This morning we woke up, had breakfast and headed to Impaqto Quito. Impaqto is a privately run social entrepreneurship hub, which was started 2 years ago and was the first of it’s kind in Ecuador!

We started the morning off by learning about entrepreneurship and the difficulties people have with starting a new business, plan or idea. After this conversation, we learned about Eco-tourism and all the wonderful things that this beautiful country has. The four major regions that bring people to Ecuador are the Andes, the Amazon, the Pacific Coast, and of course the Galapagos islands!

After this we went to the international food court at the mall for lunch and to grab some Spanish to English dictionaries and phrase books so we can try to make conversation with Ecuadorians.

After lunch we walked back to Impaqto for another discussion about mining, electricity, and the extraction of natural resources. We learned that massive international companies are trying to remove groups of indigenous people from their land just so the companies can make a little more money.

After this, we came back to the hotel for a short rest before dinner. We came back and just finished up our nightly recap of what has happened so far! We are just getting ready for bed and packing up our bags as we are leaving quite early for the amazon tomorrow morning!
